July/August 2003
We look forward to the wedding of Rosemary Buttimer and Roy Logie on Saturday 23rd August at 1.30pm in the lovely setting of Christchurch at Kilmeen. The church has recently been redecorated inside and looks beautiful.
Also at Kilmeen on 31st August we will be having the first of our 2003 Harvest Thanksgivings. This is a 5th Sunday in the month and will the one service for the whole Union. Please think what you would like to give thanks for in your life; your personal harvest = something you have made or grown; a hobby; a new grandchild perhaps; something precious in your life and bring a symbol, a photo or sample or the actual object or person with you to the service. You’ll get it/them back don’t worry!! This service will be a special opportunity to give thanks, not only for the crops and animals of our farms but of things special in our own lives. It can sometimes be quiet difficult to pick something out, as there may be many things we are thankful for. Start thinking now; more details nearer the time.
Several schools in the West Cork area have recently included the Round Tower at Kinneigh as part of their religious and history studies. We are always pleased to welcome groups and individuals to Kinneigh and if you can get in touch with the Rector, we will make sure the church is open. There is also a cabin with chairs and tables (15 children max) and also a lavatory with hand basin. Kinneigh is a lovely ancient place, where prayers have been said all down the centuries and very suitable for anyone wanting a place to go to for a ‘Quiet Day’ or a few hours peace. So again if any private individual or group wishes to use the facilities there please ring the Rector. Kinneigh boasts of having the only Irish Round Tower with a hexagonal base and built in the 1000’s. There had been a monastery there since 619 and there was even an early but small diocese of Kinneigh!
Willie Sullivan is now happily settling into the routine of Golden Meadows in Clonakilty and we wish him well.
At the time of writing Eva Buttimer is very weak and our thoughts are with the family in what may be her last days.
Lets hope for good weather during these next two months. The Rector is planning some improvements in the Rectory garden and would actually like to sit outside in the garden! She has just realised what with rain and work and mowing, she has hardly had the opportunity to actually just sit and enjoy – and she is the one who preaches on the need to BE not DO all the time!!
