June 2003

The annual Easter General Vestry Meeting was held on Sunday 27th April at Farranthomas Hall following a celebration of the Eucharist for the whole Union. Starting with refreshments, and the fact that the weather was so good so that the children of the congregation were happily playing together outside, meant we had a larger gathering than usual.

The Rector gave a report on her first seven months here and of how she saw the future of farming families, as well as incomers, shaping the future of the church in these parishes.

Edith Draper reported on the Children’s Church; David Bourne on the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigades; Dorothy Draper on the Mothers’ Union; Jean Buttimer and Lily Shorten on the use of the various church halls in the union. All reports were encouraging and showed a series of lively activities.

As another season draws to a close, another award has been made, this time to Ivan Shorten, honoured with a Cork Indoor Sports award for all his hard work he has put into the sport over the years. This has included coaching schools to nine All Ireland titles and travelling with one of these to Slovakia to compete in the World Schools’ Championships.

Congratulations also to Emma Jane Helen who has bee selected to play on the Irish Schools Team in Scotland at the end of June. The club wishes her the best of luck, as I’m sure we all do.
