We look forward to the Confirmation at the end of May (Sun 29th) of Adam Shorten, Charlotte Elstob, Jonathan Readman, Lindsay Shorten, Peter Shorten, Sheryl Deane. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.

A joyful baptism for Keith Graham Moore, son of Joanna and Graham was held at St Bartholomew’s Kinneigh on 1st May – it was good to welcome his wider family for this occasion.

Congratulations to Heather and Leonard Shorten on the arrival (10th May) of their 10lb baby boy – Graham Eric Samuel Shorten. Well done!

The coffee morning/evening on 11th May in aid of Christian Aid at Lily and Albert Shorten’s home made €855 – huge thank you to all involved, those who helped, baked, turned up, gave prizes and were generous with their purses. The evening was a very special occasion when the Rector gave a short service of blessing for Lily and Albert in their new home (Albert’s old home where he and John lived as boys.)

Thank you to Billy Duke for organizing and to Donal Buttimer for the making of a window shelf for the Altar Cross to stand on, in the East Window at Kinneigh. This means the cross (our main Christian symbol) remains central for everyone to see, and not pushed to one side when the Communion Table is in use.

At St Mary’s Desertserges, the area around the font has been cleared of odds and ends to reveal the attractive tiling on the floor and the font itself, which is a beautiful and very fine piece of hand carved limestone.  In time it is proposed that two of the pews will be turned around to make a proper Baptistery. This will make baptisms more comfortable for the families of those baptized.

Thank you to Marjory Garland for making the lovely set of Altar linens for St Mary’s, Desertserges.

Pigeons nesting in St Mary’s tower have caused lots of debris to mess up the entrance to the church for a long time, but now this problem has reached real nuisance level. Whilst wanting to care for wild life (bees and bats also inhabit St Mary’s) the pigeon factor must really now be sorted.

On Friday 3rd June at 8pm, there will be a Bring and Buy at Farranthomas Hall in aid of St Luke’s and the Bandon Day Centre. Please all come to support this worthwhile event.

The next Select Vestry meeting is on Wednesday 8th June at St Paul’s Parish Centre, Ballymoney.

We are pleased to have Lily Shorten and Keith Ross as additional members to our team of Eucharistic assistants - Richard Buttimer, Billy Duke and Benjy Hosford who have license from the bishop to serve until 2008.

We look forward to the wedding of Emma Wylie and Hugh Giles at St Bartholomew’s Church Kinneigh at 3pm on Saturday 11th June.  In July (2nd) we also look forward to Arthur Shorten and Shirley Salter’s wedding in Skibbereen and for Shirley to come and live among us at Coolanaugh, Newcestown.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the ill and housebound and those in hospital at the time of writing, especially Eddie Damery in St Oliver’s ward, St Fin Barre’s, Cork and for Pat Hosford in the Cork University Hospital.
