Various tributes were made, and a special mention to Benjy Hosford. Benjy was Church Warden for over sixty years. He now steps down as one of the last of the ‘old style’ Church Wardens who saw the job as a job for life. Tributes have been made before at different times to Benjy and Ethel for their remarkable faithfulness. The ‘new style’ is that of more people taking turns with the term of Warden as being for one year; however the Rector hoped each Church Warden would see their office in terms of three years. The accounts were audited professionally this year, and showed that in spite of spiralling costs (as in insurance) our charitable giving to aid and mission was well up; a real credit to the parish.

The Good Friday walk around Kilcolman Park was enjoyed in wonderful Spring weather. Thanks to all who helped make this event so worthwhile – not least Pat and David Lamb for allowing us on their land. The walk began and finished at St Mary’s Desertserges where we thought about what Good Friday meant. On the walk we made crosses, answered a questionnaire about the Passion (paintings about the Passion of Christ were at different points) and questions about what we could see around us.

Easter Day was the finale to a busy and ecumenical Lent/Holy Week and Easter and the beginning (of course) to our Easter Season!

The Girl’s Brigade finished up with a magnificent party with food and games for all. Badges and awards were given. A presentation pack of the Irish postage stamps – the full set of the Birds of Ireland series, plus three First Day Covers were presented to Captain Susan Smith, as well as flowers and a card, as a token for all she has done over the years with the Girls Brigade. The Company will remain as a company until August as two Brigaders, Eileen Dixon and Audrey Smith, are off to Romania for a Girls Brigade trip. In the autumn we plan to restart as a Joy Club – a Christian based, monthly junior youth club for boys as well as girls.
